Champagne Sunday’s: The Social Experiment of the Letter J…

24 09 2008

When I was in the 4th grade, I took a pencil eraser and burned the letter J on my right thigh.  Still till this day, the J remains.  My Do Dah always said that I was destined to marry someone whose name began with a J.  I have been searching for that person ever since.

About a year ago, I was messaging my friend Quinlan who are one of those people who I knew I was always suppose to meet.  We were talking about music and stuff. (I must give him credit for he influences my exceptional taste in music.)  Anyway, I was checking out his myspace page and I came across a beautiful woman whose name was “Lovee”.  She had a public profile, so I did a quick perusal of her page and found the most beautiful man I have ever seen.  His name was Jamie.

I sent Jamie a friend request and he accepted.  Shortly after, he sent me a message asking me these crazy personal questions.  I liked it.  I responded and asked him equally crazy personal questions.  It is AMAZING how easy it is to share your thoughts and secrets with someone you have never met or ever expect to meet.  Everyday for almost a year Jamie and I would send each other myspacedbook and email messages.

As time passed, Jamie and I got to know each other better. We soon realized that he grew up in the town my sister was living in and we had some mutual friends.  I think this is so strange because he lives in London, England and I live in Ohio.  Jamie travels to New York City frequently and we tired to meet each other when we were in the city last June.  Unfortunately, it did not work out. Therefore, as I was planning my trip to England this past August, Jamie and I decided that we would make a second attempt to meet in Paris.  We planned to meet on top of the Eiffel Tower.  Once we met, we would terrorize the city, drink mass amounts of champagne, and be ROCKSTARS!!!  Unfortunately, it did not work out again…

During my trip in England, I would frequent the Oakford Social Club.  It has a great DJ, cheap drinks and only a short walk to and from my sister’s house.  One eve I went to the Social Club and a guy who as soon as he walked in caught my eye.  Throughout the evening he kept smiling at me.  Eventually he came over and said hello. We had wonderful conversation, exchanged numbers, and made plans to go on a date. The next day we met up in London and had so much fun.  I fancied him and he fancied me, even though his name did not begin with a J.

His name was Tom and he was in a band and music producer.  With his connections he offered me, a back stage pass to the upcoming music festival I was attending (Reading).  I am not in a band and not a producer, but I am connected and had a pass of my own.  Therefore, I declined. We made plans to meet after Dirty Pretty Things played at the festival.

On the day of the festival, I was so excited just to rock out to all the AMAZING Bands, DPT being one of them, and to meet up with Tom.  One of the last songs that DPT played was a Nirvana cover, In Bloom.  It was one of the highlights of the festival.  Anyway, as I was walking back stage to meet Tom, I almost tripped over a person who passed out from partying too hard.  As I caught my ground, I looked up and right before my eyes was JAMIE.  (I am not joking I swear this is true.)  He and I looked at each other in disbelief.  We hugged each other so tight and just laughed and starred at each other for what seemed like hours.

There were over 80,000 people plus at this festival and I run into the person that I thought I would never meet.  The thought still blows my mind. Jamie and I walked back to where his friends were hanging out and he introduced me.  As he was going through his line up of introductions, Tom walks up and says hello.  Tom asked, “How do you know Jamie?” Jamie and I laughed aloud and we told Tom it was a long story.  Come to find out, Jamie and Tom are good mates. I sometimes think that I was always suppose to meet Jamie.

Jamie and I remain in contact with each other and plan to see each other when I travel to England over the Thanksgiving Holiday.  Unfortunately, Jamie has a girlfriend and ironically enough her name is Victoria. Oh well, I am moving on to my next Social Experiment…
