Champagne Sunday’s: A Candid Interview with my Creator…

16 06 2008

My mummy came to visit me this weekend.  I always enjoy her visits because even though we have known each other our whole lives, we continue to get to know each other with every visit. My mum and I look identical and have the same mannerisms, but we are nothing alike.  I was always a ‘Daddy’s Girl” and was never really close with my mum.  It is very humbling to know that my mum loves me unconditionally and even though I have always thought of myself as a “handful”, she continues to support me in all the decisions I have made for myself. If I have not said it enough, then I will say it again, my mum is an AMAZING woman and I am thankful that after a long and tedious application process that she was blessed by the powers that be to be my mummy! (She was my first choice of course…next to Oprah.)

Anyway, after a day of shopping, we strolled up to my favorite watering hole and ordered some vino and Nutella sandwiches.  It was a somewhat warm evening and the vino was going down as if it were water.  The older we get in life; I think we sometimes forget who we are and where we came from.  My memory is AWFUL, and I really wanted to know what my mum thought of me.  Therefore, after three glasses of some tasty red vino flights, I interviewed my creator, Cynthia Elizabeth Denayer.

CS: Do you remember the day I was born?

Mum:  I do. Nona (means Grandma in Italian) took me to the hospital around 7am.  Your biological father (the Sperminator) thought it was in his best interest to go golfing instead of watching the birth of his second child.  I was one of the first woman at the hospital where you were born to receive an epidural. (CS: You drugged me…no wonder…HA!) You were an easy birth.  You came out around 1 pm…however, they took you away from me because your body temperature dropped and they had to put you in an incubator (CS: So you are saying I was cool then…bad joke!)  I finally got to see you 3 days later.  You were 6 lbs, 7 ounces, and 17 inches long.  You were so tiny.  (CS:  They say great things come in small packages, like DYNOMITE!) True. You were a breath of fresh air and you never cried.  In addition, you never slept!

A little background about me:

I was born October 7, 1976 (Geesh…I am old, but I look damn good for my age! As do the entire woman in my family.) My sister (Libra) is two years older and my lil brother (Leo) is 2 years younger.  I am a middle child.  My mum divorced my biological father when I was 3 years old.  She remarried and he adopted us 3 kids.  He is my Daddy or for short my “Do Dah”. After my Do Dah adopted us, we took his last name and he brought his son and daughter from his previous marriage to the mix.  Therefore, we are like the Brady Bunch, minus the really bad outfits, bad hair and the evil Tiki.

I am a Libra. I could bore you with some astrological readings on Libra’s, but I will not do that to you. However, for entertainment purposes only, click here to see if you are compatible with me: http://www.astrologycom.com/astromatch/index.html (I believe in this sh*t)…I really do!!!

Back to the interview:

CS: What was I like growing up?

Mum: You never wore any cloths…Naked baby we called you.  You were a night owl.  You never slept…you still do not sleep much.  Nona would come over to the house, just so I could nap because I had to stay up with you at night.  I remember we had to put a baby gate as you walked out your bedroom door because you were Houdini and escaped out of your crib all the time.  I would always find you in the middle of the night with Gretchen (our Doberman), watching the PTL Club.  You would just sit, giggle, and entertain yourself for hours.  As you got older, we still could never find you.  You were always hiding somewhere in the house or outside sleeping under the stars.  If I did not have your sisters and brothers watching after you, I would have probably lost you a long time ago.

CS: Have I always had my really AMAZING personality?

Mum: Yes! You were always opinionated and somewhat forceful in getting your way but always cheerful in doing so.  When it came to your sister and brother, you would always let them take control of any situation and you just went with the flow.  You would do anything for your sisters and brothers and fight anyone who disrespected them, all 4’11 of you!  You were fearless and every time I had to take you to the hospital for stitches or a broken bone…you would have all the doctors laughing.  Even now, when you went in for your surgery a couple of years ago, the doctors came out to let me know that the surgery was a success. They were all laughing.  I asked them what they were laughing at and they responded, “We ask that all our patients remove all of their clothing prior to surgery and Torre did tell the nurse that she had done so, but she didn’t.  She had these pink Super Woman panties on and she drew an arrow with a magic marker pointing to the left side of her chest and some comments that are not for repeating. We laughed the entire time of her surgery.”  (CS: HA…HA…I am freakin AMAZING!)

Mum: What did you have written on your body?

CS: Like Dr. P said, it is not worth repeating! But I am glad he laughed the whole time.

CS: What was your proudest moment of me?

Mum: I know that you joke about being AMAZING, but you have always been a very modest person never bragging about your talents or accomplishments.  I never knew if you did well at one of your competitions or in school unless I saw a trophy or your report card. My proudest moment was the first time you ran the ramp into Ohio Stadium to cheer your first Ohio State Football game.  You were beautiful out there with your Scarlet & Grey uniform and long hair that shinned in the sun along with your huge smile.  Your dad and I were so proud.  It still brings tears to my eyes even when you get to go back and cheer the Alumni Game!

I am also most proud of you now.  I knew it was difficult for you to give up your old life and begin a new one.  I know it has been challenging at times, but I am proud that you are doing so well.  (CS: The next installment of Champagne Sunday’s.)

CS:  Will you go on record that I am your favorite child?

Mum: Yes, put that down that you are!  (CS: I knew it!)

My mum and I finished up every last drop of vino and headed back to the home front.  I was going to take her out with me and paint the town red, but she was a little tired and a little drunk. Mama SLAM! stayed home and we ventured out to a gig (!!!) and danced the night away…

The following morning, my mum and I went to my favorite Sunday hang out place to have the biggest cup of coffee ever. I was a little hung over from Saturday night. Vino and Vodka…it is a recipe for swollen eyes, major head pounding and occasional spinning.  I usually get the Northstar burger, but I choose to get the omelet instead.  Did you know that the enzymes in eggs help with hangovers??? Always hydrate and eat eggs after a night of boozin.  Anyway, after brunch we went back home and packed up her car and said our goodbyes.  I am excited for her to visit again and to hear some more stories of me growing up and to get to know my mum a little better…she is the only one I got…especially since Oprah is not returning my phone calls…
